Welcome to The School of Athens! Our goal is to work with young men in three key areas of personal development: Mind, Body, and Spirit. School of Athens teaches philosophical lessons alongside physical training to uplift the individual. Personal growth occurs when pupils apply their new knowledge in real-life scenarios. As students grow, their internal and external strength, they will understand how to effectively move through the world with confidence and purpose.

What is the School of Athens?

The School of Athens painting by Rahael is "a defining characteristic of Renaissance art, which Raphael learned from Leonardo; likewise, the themes of the painting, such as the rebirth of Ancient Greek philosophy and culture in Europe were inspired by Leonardo's individual pursuits in theatre, engineeringopticsgeometryphysiologyanatomy, history, architecture and art."

The School of Athens painting includes many famous thinkers from the ancient world. It is one of the most famous paintings of the Renaissance era. Renaissance is a French word which means rebirth. I sincerely feel that our modern young men need a rebirth! This is why I chose this symbolic and meaningful work of art.

Ancient Athenians believed that education should be a tool to develop the whole man, including his intellect. More focused fields of study – all with an emphasis on the development of philosophical insight. It was seen as necessary for individuals to use knowledge within a framework of logic and reason.
Old Education in classical Athens consisted of two major parts – physical and intellectual, or what was known to Athenians as "gymnastike" and "mousike." Gymnastike was a physical education that mirrored the ideals of the military – strength, stamina, and preparation for war. Having a physically fit body was extremely important to the Athenians. Boys would begin physical education either during or just after beginning their elementary education. Initially, they would learn from a private teacher known as a paidotribes. Eventually, the boys would begin training at the gymnasium. Physical training was seen as necessary for improving one's appearance, preparation for war, and good health at an old age.

OUR SERVICES

LIFE COACHING
Training for the Mind

As a High School Teacher for the past 15 years I've worked with thousands of students. Over these years, I've identified problem areas that school alone cannot address. I've noticed certain procedures that work for most young men to over come their obstacles and reach their potential. In my experience, most if not all problems arise from fear. My goal is to work with young men to combat their issues and fears in relationships, physical fitness, failure, academics, envy, video game addiction, and more. If you are struggling to reach your full potential, please give this program a chance

Training for the Spirit

What's your purpose in this world? What drives you forward? These are answers that all of us search for, but are difficult to obtain. Through philosophical teaching and intense introspection, it is possible to grow a better of understanding of ourselves and our place in the universe. Some of us believe in a a higher power, some do not. Either way, striving towards purpose and meaning is essential for motivation and self-improvement.

A little about the owner

My name is Eric, and I'm the owner and coach of School of Athens. As a teacher for over 15 years, I've learned extensively about cognitive, social, and emotional development. My experience in the classroom has taught me so mych about young people and myself. Everyday, I learn more about the psychology/sociology of young people, and I also learn and get a deeper understanding of myself. Although, the experiences of working directly with teenagers is more important than obtaining degrees. I do hold a B.A in English, M.A in Education, and a M.A in ESL (Teaching English as a Second Language). I'm a Nevada local, and I've lived in Las Vegas and Reno.  I've spent most of my adult life exploring and growing my mind, body, and spirit, in the great outdoors and in the gym.
